North Dakota Grazing Lands Coalition

Dustin and Barbara Roise

Dustin and Barbara Roise, along with their daughters, Katy, Annie, and Jessy, own and operate the family’s fourth generation ranch, 13 miles S of Powers Lake.  After Dustin’s dad retired in 2004, the newly married couple purchased the ranch.  Dustin grew up farming and ranching, working alongside his dad.  Dustin and Barb have given their children the same experience, which has led them to start their own enterprise, 3 Sisters Pasture Raised Eggs.

In 2017, Dustin’s health made it clear that the business had been built on unsustainable effort and significant changes needed to be made.  In 2018, after attending the NDGLC mentor guided workshop, the Roise’s began a rapid transition to an intensively managed grazing system and partnering with nature.  This has improved both their quality of life and the bottom line.  Committed to lifelong learning, Dustin and Barb have expanded their knowledge through webinars, podcasts, books, and by attending conferences and workshops on regenerative agriculture.

The ranch uses cow calf pairs to manage 4,600 acres of owned and leased land.  The Roise’s use managed summer grazing, stockpiled winter forage, and bale graze sites to extend their grazing season.  They are focused on low input livestock management that improves the health of the land, people, and the animals.
